Joan Chamorro, Baritone Rhapsody

“Pepper Adams, Gerry Mulligan, Serge Chaloff and Harry Carney gave the baritone sax its own personality: each of them had a distinctive sound and a very special phrasing. All of them played an important role in my decision to focus on this instrument in particular.

[...] This recording includes two sessions. The first is à la Mulligan, without piano and with a first class wind section. The second session was recorded a few months later, with a rhythm section with piano and with the collaboration of one of the leading baritones of today, Scott Robinson, baritone sax player in the groups of Maria Schneider, Bob Mintzer, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Joe Lovano and many others.

[...] This album is a tribute to the baritone sax, to the baritone sax players who have influenced me most, and some other important players like Cecil Payne, Lars Gullin, Leo Parker or Charles Davis.” Joan Chamorro
